River Maps: Rio Grande

Finally, I come to the Rio Grande, which brings this atlas series into Mexico. Getting data there has been pretty easy, but I find conflicts sometimes in what towns and rivers are named. I’ve tried to go with what seems to be the most official naming. I’ve also decided to keep the “Rio” in Rio Grande when naming it on the map. For most of these maps, I drop off generic terms like “river” or “creek,” but it seems to me that, to the Spanish-unfamiliar audience in the US, the word “Rio” is part of the river’s name rather than a designator. While one might refer to the Missouri River as “The Missouri,” you’re not likely to hear anyone call the Rio Grande, “The Grande.” So I’ve kept the generic term in this one case.

This map features the following rivers, creeks, forks (etc.): Rio Grande, San Juan, Pesquería, Salado & Monclova, Sabinas, Devils, Pecos, Peñasco, Conchos, Chuviscar, Florido, Puerco, San Jose.
