River Maps: Red and Arkansas Rivers

The Red and Arkansas Rivers, two of the Mississippi’s larger tributaries, run largely parallel to each other and so, conveniently for me, can be fit easily into one map spread as part of my ongoing attempt to generate an atlas of North American rivers. The settlements get a little crowded in Oklahoma, so I’ve had to stretch that state out quite a bit (and, consequently, squish a few other places). But distortions are part of the fun of cartograms.

This map features the following rivers, creeks, (etc.): Mississippi (portions), Red (& Tierra Blanca), Arkansas, Wichita, Washita, Little, Black & Ouachita, Saline, Canadian, North Canadian & Beaver, Neosho & Cottonwood, Verdigris, Cimarron, Big Sandy, and Purgatoire.

Important: Zazzle, the company which does my prints, will let you shrink the map down from the original size if you ask, but I cannot guarantee it will look good if you do. Additionally, Zazzle may tell you that the print is going to be some other weird size besides what it says below. That’s due to an oddity of their system. If you don’t change the size yourself, it will come out correct, despite what they might say.
